Understanding how students learn
Introduction
The ways in which we teach imply theories about student learning.
The fact that we teaching by lecturing suggests that we believe that knowledge can be transmitted from one person to another by speech, and further that being lectured to is a good way to learn.
The fact that we encourage students to read, and to write, and sometimes to work together and to undertake practical activities, suggests that we also believe these to be good ways to learn.
